Dear Friends,
The past few weeks have brought our work to a precarious crossroads. Federal grants have been frozen, unfrozen, and partially frozen again, leaving La Isla Network in an unstable position. More information on the impact of current freezes can be found in this article from Science Magazine.
Yet, in the face of this uncertainty, our team responded with tenacity and clear-eyed determination. We immediately set about finding ways to weather the tumult ahead. The stakes are too high to do otherwise.
Right now, our flagship projects ENSURE-Nepal and PREP for Change are in jeopardy. They rely entirely on federal grants. These programs, which are already saving thousands of lives and livelihoods, will be disrupted, or even halted, if we cannot secure additional support. This puts not only these projects, but also our entire mission at risk.
We need your help getting La Isla Network through these turbulent times
Historically, we have sought and prioritized institutional funding. It makes the most sense given the magnitude of our work. Across our projects we aim for systemic change, backed by the stability and strength that traditionally comes from institutional grants. This approach has propelled us from a grassroots effort to a globally recognized leader in occupational safety and health, delivering best-in-class solutions that safeguard both workers and companies’ bottom lines.
Yet even with accolades in leading scientific, business, and news publications—and with our CEO named one of TIME’s 100 Next—we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation where the very funding model we trusted has suddenly faltered.
Despite our hard work and impact, La Isla Network’s mission has not cultivated the broad public support that we will require moving forward.
For the first time, we must ask for your donations as an urgent matter. We do so not to paint a picture of misery—our entire philosophy rejects that—but because the reality is that thousands of workers who grow and harvest our food, build our infrastructure, and sustain our way of life need us. They need you. What was once the most stable and consistent framework to drive change is no longer reliable despite the merit of our endeavors. We believe you care about workers, so please help us by:
- Donating: Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. Whether one-time or recurring, every dollar contributes directly to life-saving programs.
- Sharing Our Work: Help us spread the word to your friends, family, and colleagues.
- Connecting Us: If you or someone you know works in or supplies industries that rely on manual labor, like construction, agriculture, or mining, please put us in touch. Our proven expertise can help safeguard both workforces and operations.
By donating, sharing, and connecting us with industry leaders, you become part of our global effort to protect workers. And when workers are safe, businesses and communities thrive. That’s the essence of our mission and why your support is crucial right now.
Thank you for standing with us and with workers. We’re fighting for a future where no one has to risk their life and well-being to support the supply chains we all rely on. Together, we can protect workers worldwide—and prove that caring for those who sustain us benefits everyone.
Warm regards,
The La Isla Network Team
