Important new work by our colleagues at Equidem has been published, exposing human rights violations facing migrant laborers in Dubai

Under Emirates’s new labor laws, trade unionism will continue to be illegal, leaving workers without the protection of representation necessary to voice their concerns without fear of retribution or losing their job.

The violation of worker’s rights is often directly connected to violations in occupational safety and health. In neighboring gulf states like Qatar, the illness and death of thousands of migrant workers from occupational heat is exacerbated by exploitative occupational systems that make it near impossible for workers to change employers or leave the country without their employers’ permission.

We stand with our partners at Equipem in calling for the rights and dignity of all workers to be respected in the Gulf states.
