La Isla Network is proud to welcome Dr. Jacob R. Berry as its Senior Advisor on Occupational, Military, and Aerospace Medicine. Dr. Berry is a board-certified occupational and environmental medicine physician and Senior Flight Surgeon with extensive experience in aerospace medicine, occupational health, environmental exposures, heat illness prevention, and operational medicine. During his career in the U.S. Air Force Dr. Berry served in clinical and operational leadership roles supporting military personnel working in some of the world’s most demanding environments. He is a leading expert in occupational and environmental medicine, aviation and human performance, heat stress, exposure assessment, and translating medical evidence into practical protections for workers and operators.
Dr. Berry earned his Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and completed residency training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine through Harvard.
Dr. Berry has been a collaborator with La Isla Network in advancing the recognition, prevention, and treatment of exertional heat illness. He developed the HASTE framework for recognizing and responding to exertional heat stroke. Furthermore, he has worked to translate evidence-based heat medicine into practical guidance for workers, supervisors, clinicians, and emergency responders.
As Senior Advisor on Occupational, Military, and Aerospace Medicine, Dr. Berry will bring his experience at the intersection of medicine, occupational health, human performance, and high-risk operations to La Isla Network’s work protecting people from heat and other occupational and environmental hazards.

Jacob R. Berry, MD, MPH is a board-certified occupational and environmental medicine physician and Senior Flight Surgeon with expertise in occupational, military, and aerospace medicine. A graduate of the Harvard Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, his work focuses on protecting people operating in high-risk and physiologically demanding environments. His areas of expertise include occupational and environmental exposures, heat illness, aviation medicine, human performance, and operational risk. Dr. Berry developed the HASTE framework for recognizing and responding to exertional heat stroke and has collaborated with La Isla Network to advance practical, evidence-based approaches to heat illness prevention and response.
La Isla Network is an independent occupational health research organization. We measure what working in extreme heat does to workers’ bodies, redesign the job with the employer, and go back to measure whether it worked. We work with workers, employers, universities and governments to turn that evidence into protections that are practical, enforceable and still in place after we leave.
