Preventing kidney injury among sugarcane workers

We are pleased to announce the publication of our Manuscript “Preventing kidney injury among sugarcane workers: promising evidence from enhanced workplace interventions” in BMJ Occupational and Environmental Medicine. This publication contains the results of Year 2 (Harvest 2) of the Adelante Initiative Intervention Study. Here, we highlight that after implementation of enhanced workplace measures to prevent heat stress, the proportion of burned cane cutters developing kidney injury over the harvest decreased. These findings support the need to increase efforts to prevent kidney injury among heat-stressed workers, while continuing to evaluate the effectiveness of available interventions. The publication is available at: https://oem.bmj.com/content/early/2020/05/12/oemed-2020-106406
