ENBEL joins WHO–Civil Society Working Group on Climate and Health

We are excited to announce that ENBEL, the international interdisciplinary consortium of researchers working at the intersection of climate and health, has been added as a member of the World Health Organization’s Civil Society Working Group on Climate and Health.

The ENBEL project includes La Isla Network’s PREP program in Nicaragua, which responds to the health and social impacts of occupational heat exposure among workers in sugarcane, including the fatal epidemic of CKDnt.

The Working Group was established in 2019 by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to strengthen WHO collaboration with civil society health organizations and advance significant, urgent action on climate change and health. Through participation in the Working Group, the ENBEL project will help inform global policymakers on climate and health consequences and contribute collaborative scientific materials and research outputs to encourage climate-conscious decision making.
