The interest of Dally and Newman in our research efforts is appreciated, particularly their attention to the evolving work on dissemination and implementation science (D&I). D&I is an area of practical public health research that aims to incorporate the follow-on aspects of research on efficacy and effectiveness with the ultimate broad and sustainable impact on society (Guerin et al. 2022). As Guerin and associates note, D&I efforts are relatively early in their application to occupational health and safety and require attention to multiple dimensions over an extended period. We appreciate Guerin’s work to provide a framework and a lexicon to plan interventions and believe it will prove especially useful for those beginning such work.

Our work has been conducted from the outset with D&I in mind, so we welcome the opportunity to report on how our research on productivity enhancement in sugarcane agriculture fits in the framework of implementation science. We call the attention of Dally and Newman to the entire scope of our work so that findings from the individual report on which they focused can be seen properly in the broad context of La Isla Network’s successes in addressing occupational heat stress and the CKDnT epidemic with a focus on ameliorating any more suffering of the affected populations.
