We are pleased to announce the publication of our manuscript in the Special Issue “Hydration and Nutrition Considerations for Sports and Physical Activity” of Nutrients – journal of human nutrition published monthly online by MDPI.

The aim of our research was to:

  • construct a theoretical framework of the mechanisms
that explain how physically demanding work in heat could
lead to kidney injury, based on an extensive review of heat
    and exercise research literature,
  • and subsequently put the theory to the test with
original data obtained previously in our intervention
studies of sugarcane workers in El Salvador and Nicaragua,
while placing these data in the context of results from other
    studies conducted in Mesoamerica.
