JOB BRIEF

We are looking for mid-career Data Management Specialist who will be responsible for managing, organizing, and maintaining the integrity of our data. This person will also work in the systematize and optimize the organizational process. This individual should be highly skilled in data management, data integration, project management, and the analysis, design, implementation, and optimization of processes. This person will play a critical role in ensuring that our data is accurate, secure, and readily available for decision making across the organization.

The work will be mostly remote, but the candidate must be willing to travel and be present in various locations and be comfortable working in a transdisciplinary team. 

Language skills: Advanced Spanish and English at a B2 level or higher; French is not required but would be considered a valuable asset.

Technical skills:  Proficiency in database query languages, Understanding of data architectures and data modeling. Familiarity with statistical packages (STATA, SPSS, SAS, R) and tools to collect data (Kobo, REDcap, etc)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Quality policies 

  • Develop and maintain data quality policies.
  • Ensure that data collection, storage and handling complies with local and international data protection regulations.
  • Monitor and audit data quality to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Implement data cleaning and correction processes.
  • Define and enforce data-related roles and responsibilities within the organization.

Data management

  • Oversee data quality control and database management 
  • Liaison with partners maintaining original data for specific studies
  • Collaborate in organization of field data collection and in training of local teams 
  • Manage the integration of data from various sources and systems.
  • Ensure data consistency across systems.
  • Ensure database availability and security.

Analysis and Reporting 

  • Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to facilitate access to clean and well-structured data.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies or tools to enhance data management processes.

Process Automation

  • Evaluate and map current business processes to identify areas for improvement and automation opportunities.
  • Develop and implement change management strategies to ensure effective adoption of new solutions by end-users.
  • Monitor the performance of automated processes, adjusting improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Position type and compensation

  • Considering full-time and part-time candidates (20-40 hours/week)
  • 4 weeks paid leave/year

Organization Description:

La Isla Network (LIN) is a US-based NGO working at the intersection of climate change and occupational health comprised of an international, interdisciplinary team of researchers, public health practitioners and professionals in the fields of occupational and environmental epidemiology and medicine, occupational safety and health, sports physiology, nephrology, economics, anthropology, organizational and clinical psychology, law and policy, and communication. Together we are generating, supporting, and executing evidence-driven solutions to address heat stress and to end the fatal Chronic Kidney Disease of non-traditional origin (CKDnt) epidemic by understanding the scale and impact of the disease and its causes. In the process, we are improving work conditions and supporting the creation and enforcement of policies required to protect those affected using data-driven recommendations.

LIN has several research and implementing programs operating in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras involving community level and occupational level risk assessment related to CKDnt and other occupationally acquired illnesses and injuries.  We also have programs launching in Nepal and Europe. 

As we continue to grow, the amount and quality of data is increasing. The systematization of processes and tasks, as well as the organizing and management of data, must be continually updated and optimize. We believe that proper data management is crucial for our growth. We are looking for a talented and dedicated Data Management Specialist to join our interdisciplinary team.
