Communications Intern

Position Summary:

La Isla Network is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern to support our external and internal communications efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates with experience in communication strategies, especially in the nonprofit sector, and who are interested in public health, sustainability, action on climate change, labor relations and policy. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating engaging content and storytelling across digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating and curating content for social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram)
  • Draft, proofread, and edit blog posts, press releases, newsletters, and other marketing materials
  • Support the development and execution of communication campaigns for La Isla Network’s key initiatives, including the end-of-year fundraiser
  • Collaborate with team members to create multimedia content (videos, graphics, etc.) to enhance our digital presence
  • Monitor and report on social media and website analytics to inform strategy
  • Help maintain and update content on the La Isla Network website
  • Assist with event promotion and outreach efforts
  • Conduct research on industry trends, media contacts, and partnership opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (mandatory); another language not required but preferred (originating from Latin America, Europe, or South Asia)
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and content management systems (CMS)
  • Basic understanding of SEO, analytics, and digital marketing trends
  • Familiarity with design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing is a plus
  • Interest in public health, sustainability, action on climate change, labor relations and policy
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting
